Garageband - 'Around the World' composition. Year: 7 to 9

An easy to use but brilliantly simple loop based program that is suitable for key stages 2 and 3. This can also be used to record live instruments and voices as well as MIDI. There is a wide range of loops available in a variety of styles so that projects can be based around particular areas of study (e.g. dance, jazz, blues, reggae, world, symphonic and film music)

Logic Pro Year: 7 to 11

This is the 'industry standard' sequencer program for the music industry.

  • It has a superb software sampler (with a wide variety of samples available) allowing students to create pieces with realistic sounds in a variety of create pieces with realistic sounds in a variety of styles.
  • Excellent recording facilities utilising our professional sound booth, piano and Roland digital drum kit.
  • Superb,professional effects and plug-ins including reverbs, compressors, equalisers and many special effects for more adventurous projects.
  • The ability to score a film sound track which can be imported in a number of formats and run on the logic arrange window.

Sibelius Year: 10 to 13

This professional scoring package is used by specialist colleges and many working composers. As well as the advantages of having 26 computers running this software there are several specialist plug-ins available including Instruments, (a guide to ranges and sounds of ensembles and solo instruments) and Auralia, (an aural training package). Most G.C.S.E and A level students would really benefit from using this as a resource for their coursework.

Computer Animation Master Class Year: KS3, KS4 & KS5

Under the direction of Freelance Animator, Robin Webb, pupils will produce a short animated film based on a chosen theme or brief determined by the school. They will be shown production techniques and be involved in story creation, script-writing, storyboarding, sound design and animatics to produce an animation using digital cameras. The final film will be published on DVD and made available to audiences in the school.

Respecting Others using Kar2ouche Year: 7 or 8

This cross-curricular Citizenship and ICT based session will encourage pupils to explore their ideas about what it means to treat people respectfully and why this is important to society. Using Inspiration mind-mapping software, pupils will discuss in groups how and why they believe people bully. Individually, they will be asked to produce a storyboard which either leads to or shows the consequences of bullying.

Respecting Diversity using Kar2ouche Year: 7 or 8

The aim of this session is to give pupils an opportunity to develop their understanding of the issue of racism and encourage them to investigate issues such as immigration, discrimination and individuality. It will also give them an opportunity to improve their ICT presentation skills using media rich software. Pupils will access multi-media storyboards and activities then discuss the issues raised.

Photoshop for GCSE Media Studies Year: 10 or 11

Students will be shown the main graphical tools within Adobe "Photoshop" including how to use layers. They will plan a poster or magazine cover that includes text objects and develop a design using a range of techniques, filters and transformations. The first design will be evaluated and assessed before improvements are made to their final publication.

An Introduction to Adobe Photoshop Year: 9 or 19

In this session pupils will use techniques and processes in order to produce an electronic image. They will be shown how to:

  • Select and use appropriate tools to edit photographic images.
  • Select and use appropriate layer techniques to develop ideas.
  • Develop an awareness of concepts and complexity of the elements of design, including: line, texture, shape and colour.

Photoplays and Story-boards in Comic Life Year: 7 to 10

The aim of this session is to tell a story using images and graphics. Pupils will take a series of photographs, using digital cameras, which will be imported into Comic Life software. They will be shown text tools and a variety of graphical manipulation techniques when designing their comic strip.

Discover the Heart (Stereo Virtual Reality) Year: 3 or 4

A Stereo virtual-reality model of the heart and other main organs has been developed to teach 'the circulatory system' with an audio visual explanation and representation of how blood flows through the human body. The presentation includes 3D visuals of the lungs, brain, kidneys, digestive system and liver and breaks down the blood into its component parts before exploring the heart and its various functions. Students will also complete a series of exercises, quizzes and examination questions using the Mono circulatory system model.
