"Just to let you know I had a fabulous time at the CLC today... went straight home and had a go myself at creating an animation in photoshop.

Wow wow wow.

If you're school is near Heworth Grange CLC you are really lucky a fantastic resource. http://www.hgclc.org/

I found the staff there to be really helpful and friendly.

They had a fantastic CPD event on today about different ways to use and create digital animations.

Ross Wallis of Sidcot School, Somerset, and teachers Jane McGonagle, Katherine Devon and Paul Jeeves shared their in-depth expertise across a range of software packages including 'ICanAnimate' and 'Photoshop CS3'

Plus they had a really nice buffet.

"Year ten GCSE Media students have had the benefit of working with Garageband at Heworth CLC to enhance their Media production skills in preparation for their Production course work. A dry run like this is essential for pupils to have the skills necessary to perform at the highest levels. The superb expertise of the music department staff and the high standard of equipment have contributed to Media success over several years now. Further training using Imovie worked in a similar way, training pupils (and staff) in essential skills. The friendly welcome and well cared for centre set high standards which pupils rise to meet.

They return to school enthusiastic and engaged - what more could you want?"

"As the new acting head of Music at Thomas Hepburn Community School, I have found the support from Heworth's CLC absolutely invaluable. I had used very little advanced ICT in my teaching over the previous 5 years, but am now able to deliver a strong ICT profile in my Music department principally because of the expertise of the Music teaching staff at Heworth Grange and the willingness of the CLC to lend us a wide range of computer equipment and other technological devices. In conjunction with the excellent guidance in how to actually apply the technology for successful teaching and learning, this has been an enormous boon to my Music department"

"Our small team of Year 8 pupils are still chattering about their new-found skills. And - so am I, their teacher! In fact we're totally hooked into a new world which opened up when we tentatively stepped into the first round of the Animation Competition hosted by Heworth CLC.

The warm welcome we received helped our nerves. We began our day knowing nothing about stop-motion animation work. However by lunch time, no one really wanted to stop. Not even the boys. They were more tempted by cameras and and editing than chocolate biscuits - such was their enthusiasm!

Thanks to the encouragement and patience of the CLC teaching staff, the two boys and two girls, not only developed as a team, but produced their first- ever animated movie, albeit 40 seconds long. They were delighted. And even more so when they learned they had won their round of the competition.

That shared sense of achievement was not just about winning but having enjoyed a special time of learning and sharing.  Thank you."

"Dryden School, a secondary special school for students with Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties has recently successfully applied for a grant from the “My Mediabox”  fund to make an animation film to get the students’ voices heard.  The manager at Heworth CLC has been instrumental in this process, not only by making the School’s ICT Coordinator aware of the fund, but also by setting up meetings, liaising with a film maker and offering support throughout the application and film making process.  The staff and students involved are very grateful for this support."
Emma Pickering, ICT Co-ordinator, Dryden School

"A group of Year 8 students took part in the animation competition recently organised by Peter Haywood. As a member of the art department I took 8 enthusiastic students who enjoyed the day immensely, despite the fact they did not win. The whole day was relaxed yet professional and perfectly pitched for Year 8. There was plenty of time for hands on activities and the facilities available were very good. Staff involved were excellent and very enthusiastic. The final animations were hugely successful.

I was very impressed with the facilities at the CLC and the organisation of the whole event. I would use the CLC again for future projects."
Angela Robinson, Ryton Comprehensive

"My recent visit to the Heworth CLC to take part in an animation competition was great fun for myself and pupils alike. All pupils gave a 9 or a 10 out of 10 for the day on a recent evaluation form filled in at Cardinal Hume School. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I am looking forward to coming back again, as are the pupils. Thank"
Tim Cornley, Cardinal Hume
